Options were to head east along a substantial vehicle track towards Loch Ossian then north-west to Loch Treig or take the path north-west notoriously wet and boggy. Opted for the latter.

Crossed the railway line and walked along the path to the west of the train tracks. Initially the path was in good nick but after a few hundred metres deteriorated with areas of water and bog, most of which could be avoided. Not as bad as envisaged and saved some time.

At the railway underpass crossed the bridge over the Allt Luib Ruairidh to join the substantial vehicle track now on the west side of the rail line. The track descended to Loch Treig then went west along the south side of the loch on a rougher track.

On reaching the bridge over the Abhaiann Rath crossed it and headed west on a rough path. At an obvious bend in the river left this path and walked through bracken to the foot of Creag Ghuanach. It was then a steep climb with bracken concealing the boulders and this made for slow progress.

High up grass replaced the bracken with some crags to avoid before the incline eased then through more crags to the summit of this Graham, marked by a cairn. There were some reasonable views despite higher hills being in cloud.

It was an easy descent NNE through the vegetation, no bracken, to the Lairig Leacach path at the crossing of the Allt Feith a’ Ghleannain. It was then a steady climb north along this rough path to the west of the Allt na Lairige, the path on the east side shown on the map didn’t appear to exist.

Near the highpoint joined a rough ATV track which led to the crossing of the Allt a’ Chuil Choirean and the Stob Ban Bothy. Thereafter a good vehicle track rose slightly before the long descent north-east into a strong wind. After nearly three kilometres on this track entered the shelter of the forest later emerging from the trees to reach the car, left the previous evening at the side of the track around 1.5 kilometres north of Corriechoille in Glean Spean.

  • Time taken – 7 hours 20 minutes.
  • Distance 21 kilometres.
  • Ascent – 650 metres.
