West Aberdeenshire

I parked at the side of the B9119 at the junction of the minor road leading to Lumphanan and walked south-west along this minor road to Tom Tough’s Well. Here I left the road crossed some rough ground, barbed wire fences, stone dykes and a stubble field before entering an area where the trees had been harvested. This was the summit area of the un-categorised Glenmillan Hill although I wasn’t able to say where the high point was.

Lynturk Hill was located to south of Alford and was climbed from the minor road to the north. I entered and crossed a grassy field moving to an adjoining field when cattle emerged from the wood. Under observation of the farmer who arrived in his Land Rover I re-entered the field of cattle and walked between them before crossing a gate into the wood. A grassy knoll marked the summit of this Tump.

To the north of Alford was Parkhead Hill. I left my vehicle at the entrance to Highland Croft, crossed the road and a stubble field, then entered a ploughed field walking up its edge to what appeared to be the summit of this Tump.

I parked my vehicle on the south side of the B9002 west of Insch at the access road leading to Oldtown Farm. I crossed some rough ground, a barbed wire fence and a couple of grassy fields to reach the summit of the Tump, Fallow Hill.

The un-categorised, Red Hill, located on Gartly Moor north-west of Insch, was my final hill for the day. I left my vehicle in the car park, crossed the road and a stubble field to reach some rough vegetation below Red Hill. It was then a fairly steep climb through heather to the summit marked by a couple of cairns.
