Torgyle, Glen Moriston

It was frosty with low cloud on arrival at the start of the vehicle track on the west side of the A887 Invermoriston to Bun Loyne Road just east of Torgyle Bridge. Walked west along this track for a few metres, passed a coms tower, to a junction of tracks where went north towards the pylons and out of the cloud. There were a couple of gates in a deer fence, one for walkers, the other for vehicles was padlocked.

The track then wound its way NNW on a steady gradient, roughly following the power lines, as the sun rose above the hills to the south of Glen Moriston. At NH29851514 left the track and made the easy ascent across pathless vegetation to the summit of the Tump, Meall na Doire. Couldn’t decide which of the two knolls was the highest, the GPS didn’t help as it was out by several metres.

It was a fine sunny day so to extend this outing descended north-west through rougher and in places damp ground to rejoin the vehicle track at a dip near one of the pylons. (NH29391586) It was then a steady climb NNW to a point where the track lost a bit of height before turning north-east. (NH28981781)

Left the track at this point, crossed some damp ground, to reach a deer fence which was followed west as it descended to the outflow from an unnamed lochan. It was easily crossed then a short climb led to the summit of Meall Lochan Beinne Baine. The highest point of this Sub Dodd appeared to a moss/grass covered rock.

Returned to the vehicle track then used it for the 5K or so back to the starting point.
