Sidlaws and Strathmore

I left my vehicle opposite Kirkton of Collace Church, north-east of Balbeggie, and walked south-west to Kirkton Farm where a signed path led south-east along a muddy track then up the side of an electric fence to a new deer fence. From here I headed towards the col west of the Tump, Bandirran Hill, then through brash to an area of mature trees. I walked round the west and south sides of the deer fence enclosing the firs to locate the trig point amongst some gorse bushes.

Afterwards I drove to Alyth and left my car at the side of the public road near the local hotel and walked north-east then north up the farm track, part of the Cateran Trail. I did attempt what I thought might be a short cut to Hill of Alyth but was thwarted by numerous gorse bushes so returned to the track. Here I changed my mind and decided to climb Hill of Loyal first so I crossed a barbed wire fence and ascended this Tump.

Afterwards I returned to and re-crossed the fence before heading up the path through the gorse bushes to the trig point and viewfinder on Hill of Alyth. This wasn’t the true summit it was around 500 metres further west along some paths. On reaching the large rock marking the high point of this Hump I returned to the Cateran Trail and the village of Alyth.
