The second Hump on the Isle of Tiree, there are only two, was Beinn Hough at 119 metres. We parked on the grass at the start of the tarred road leading to Creagan House and Cnoc an Fhithich, south-west of the hamlet of Hough.
We walked along this road and crossed a cattle grid where the gradient increased as the road wound its way round the west side of Cnoc an Fhithich then north to the mast. It was rather windy as we wandered round the tower then climbed a few more metres to the summit of Cnoc an Fhithich, where there was a second mast.
There was traces of a path along the north ridge then a short steep drop led to the Bealach na Beinn followed by an easy ascent to the trig point on Beinn Hough. One of the nearby large rocks was apparently the highest point. The summit also consisted of several dilapidated buildings, remnants of a World War Two radar station.
Despite these ugly scars there were good views across the Island but it was cold and windy so we soon returned to the car by the ascent route bypassing the summit of Cnoc an Fhithich.
