Fetteresso

Hill of Swanley: Left my vehicle in the car park to the east of Fetteresso Forest and north-east of Stonehaven, and walked west then north-west along forest tracks to just after its high point. Here I located a narrow path, a mountain bike trail, which led to the summit. Due to the trees being close together it wasn’t possible to say exactly where the high point of this Tump was. The return was by the upward route.

Hill of Trusta: I moved my vehicle to the south side of Fetteresso Forest, west of Stonehaven, and left it to the south of the car park at the end of the public road north of Quithel Farm as the parking area was full. I walked along the tarred road passed the car park and into the forest where areas had been felled and some replanting done. I briefly headed north then east on forest tracks before leaving them and walking along the edge of a harvested area. The muddy ground deteriorated before crossing a forest track then improved slightly as I continued north to the edge of mature firs. I walked west along the edge of this area before heading into the mature trees to locate the trig point marking the summit of this Tump.  A couple of wider breaks were followed to an old fence and I emerged from the mature firs slightly to the east of my entry point before returning to the start by the approach route.

Jacksbank: Parked beside Blererno Farm, north of Drumlithie, at the entrance to the service road leading to the wind turbines, and walked south then west up this road to a set of double gates giving access to a field and the summit of Jacksbank. Once over the gates cows and calves sheltering from the rain beside trees spotted me and headed in my direction. I made a hasty retreat to the gates while the cattle returned to their shelter. A second attempt was also unsuccessful but on the third occasion I kept to the north and out of sight of the cattle until near a wind turbine and a grassy area which appeared to be the highest point of this Tump. I returned to the gates and had re-crossed them before the cattle arrived.
