Cromar

Torphins Hill: Parked beside the Torphins Clubhouse off the unclassified road to the north-west of the village and walked up the side of the golf course. I crossed a fairway to reach the highest point of Torphins Hill which appeared to be the man made 13th tee. The return was by the approach route.

Mortich: This Tump was located to the north-east of Aboyne. I parked on the verge of the unclassified road to the east of Mortich and north of the road leading to Upper Tillylair and walked north on the unclassified road then along the tarred road leading to Nether Tillylair Farm. From there I followed various vehicle tracks which took me close to the summit of Mortich. At the end of one of the tracks I crossed a small fence and walked through some long heather to reach a large pile of boulders which may have marked the summit of this Tump. However a nearby area of heather was around the same height so I visited it before returning by the upward route.

Gallows Hill: I parked at the entrance to Knockie Wood, north-east of Barehillock, accessed along an unclassified road north-west of Tarland, and walked along a track which led into the trees but soon came to an end. I then headed through the wood, round Knockie Hill, and onto Gallows Hill. The return was by the upward route.

Broom Hill: I parked on waste ground on the unclassified road east of Boig, north of Tarland, and walked back to this property which was under renovation. I then headed north along a Right of Way taking me up the edge of a couple of fields and into the forest. I followed a track west to a stock fence then alongside it to above the tree line and to a new plantation protected by a deer fence. There was no gate so I crossed this fence, walked through the young fir trees, and re-crossed the deer fence to reach a couple of stones which marked the summit of this Tump.

I descended east following a vehicle track but there was still no evidence of a gate or route through the new plantation so there was no option but to cross the fence and walk through the new firs to the stock fence then I returned by the outward route.
